BRAZIL (SÃO PAULO STATE): COARSE GRAIN CASE STUDY SUMMARY
Contact: Ademar Romeiro, FUNDAG
The case study led by FUNDAG's team was focused on two regions. The first one was the Cantareira-Mantiqueira Corridor Region, which lies fully within the Atlantic Forest biome. The main goal is to analyse the necessary conditions and pre-requisites in order to implement a Payment for Environmental Services (PES) scheme in this region as it is the main source of water-related services for the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Besides focusing on a local-level analysis, this case study also comprised a state-level analysis in São Paulo and the main objective was to assess the role of Trade Development Rights (TDR) in reducing the economic impacts of the Forest Reserve as required by the Brazilian Forest Code.
